Using Advanced Filters

Hidden Feature

Image-Pro filters are used to emphasize features of an image.  For basic information about how filters work, click here.  Image-Pro provides 2D filters and 3D filters.  2D filters are designed to process single-frame files.  3D filters allow you to add a third dimension of processing to the filter operation if you are testing a sequence file. The 3D filters can filter based on not only the pixel neighborhood of the active frame, but on the frames that follow in the sequence.

Note: These instructions explain how to use 2D filters. But the process for defining filters is the same for 3D filters.  Click here for complete descriptions of all 2D and 3D filters.

To use the advanced set of filters:

Find the Filters group on the Process ribbon, and click on the down arrow.

Click on 2D Filters.

The 2D filters dialog is opened.

The available 2D filters are organized into several categories on the 2D Filters dialog box, including:

Follow the links above for detailed descriptions of the options provided in each category.

Click on the tab for the filter category that contains the filter you want to select.

Click the radio button next to the filter you want to apply to the image.

If you want to see the effect of the selected filter on a sample portion of your image, click on the down arrow to the right of the Preview button and put a check in the On/Off checkbox. There are three preview options from which you can select:

  • ROI: This option previews the filter in any existing ROI(s) (click here for more information about ROIs).
  • Regular: This option previews the filter in the default rectangular filter preview window. The preview rectangle can be adjusted by clicking and dragging either the entire rectangle to the desired location, or by dragging sides or corners to adjust the size and shape.
  • Full image: This option previews the filter on the entire image.

6.   Click the Apply button to apply the currently selected filter to the image.

Note: Optionally, you can click on the down-arrow to the right of the Apply button, and select the "New Image" option. If you select this option, the filtered image will be created as a new file in a new image window.
